When things go wrong with the body the negative effects are mental as well as physical. Having an injury can all too often bring with it the fear of re-injury, anxiety about return to sport or work and frustration at our bodies’ frailties.

At the Homerton Clinic we are aware of this and from years of experience we can provide you with a careful explanation of your problem and education about how it is best managed. Through this dialogue we can give you the confidence to get back to what you were doing before, helping you feel whole once again.

Acupuncture

The use of Acupuncture in the West has increased greatly over the last couple of decades and is widely used in the NHS. Recent research has demonstrated that Acupuncture is able to help with a number of painful conditions through the stimulation of the body's own neural network. In addition there is evidence that Acupuncture is able to release tight muscles often the source of both discomfort and decreased function.

The Homerton Clinic uses Acupuncture in the treatment and management of a variety of musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pain, tension headaches, and other joint pain associate with arthritis.

Ergonomic Assessments and Postural Advice

Many musculoskeletal problems are caused by poor posture and incorrect movement patterns. This is particularly an issue with many people who are required to sit at desks and computers for long hours. The Homerton Clinic aims to offer advice on the correct work-station set-up and so decrease the stress placed on muscles and joints.

Exercise Prescription

The Homerton Clinic is able to provide expert advice and specific exercise programmes to address your particular problems. This prescription of exercise is aimed to restore normal muscle function to alleviate a variety of problems from both chronic and more acute following recent injury. Prescribed exercises include programmes to address muscle imbalance, core stability, and tight muscles.

Joint manipulation and mobilisation

Manipulation and mobilisation of joints can be used to alleviate stiffness and restore function in a variety of both neck and back problems. In addition mobilisation of joints can help restore function following injury and after surgery.

Pacing

Many musculoskeletal problems and in particular chronic pain that has been present for a long time can be difficult to treat because of poor expectations and incorrect levels of exercise. The Homerton Clinic aims to advise you on the correct level of exercise and activity to make the most of your recovery.

Preventative advice, postural advice and education

Avoiding injuries is always preferable to having to treat them once they are present. The Homerton Clinic aims to help you avoid getting injured in the first place by advising on correct strengthening and stretching exercises to help reduce this risk.

Soft tissue techniques

The Homerton Clinic is able to provide a range of soft tissue techniques aimed at reducing tight and overactive muscles which can often be a source of pain. Techniques used include deep tissue release and trigger point work to correct and relax tight points in the muscle.

Sports specific rehabilitation

The Homerton Clinic has a long history of providing a high level of rehabilitation to a variety of athletes from high level national and international sporting backgrounds. Rehabilitation includes specific and tailored post-surgical programmes.

Taping and strapping techniques

It is often important to allow an injury the time to heal. A number of tapping and strapping techniques can be used to given the body time to do this. Tapping can also provide the body with specific sensory information to help improve normal function while recovery takes place.
